Since you are here reading this article, obviously you are interested in your health and wellness. But, who really has the time to thoroughly research every new kind of wearable tech or fitness tracking device? There are many already on the market and it seems like more new ones are available all of the time.
That’s where I come in. I am a regular person, like you, who is trying to stay healthy and fit. I have a lot of experience with activity trackers of all kinds, and I want to share what I have learned with you. That way, you can save time and money, while learning from my successes and mistakes…
Why should I use a fitness tracker in the first place?
Basically, it is hard to improve something that you are not measuring. I think about it this way: if I had high blood pressure, how would I know if it was getting better if I didn’t know what my blood pressure numbers were? Doesn’t that make sense?
Another example is a person who has been diagnosed with diabetes. How would that person know how their treatment was working if he didn’t know his fasting glucose numbers or his HgA1C numbers? See, it just wouldn’t work.
So, by tracking your heart rate, number of steps, calories burned, and total time spent exercising, you can monitor your progress and how effective your workouts are. At the end of the day, you will be able to easily see if you have met your goals for that day.
Keep in mind that, for most healthy people, the minimum target is 10,000 for the number of steps to take each day. Of course, you should check with your health care provider before you start an exercise program.
When should I wear a fitness activity tracker?
I find that I wear my fitness tracking devices all the time. They are often waterproof, so even wearing them in the shower is fine. However, read the product information (or my product reviews) to verify if the wearable tech you are considering is truly waterproof. For example, some are only splash resistant, so you would not want to wear those devices while swimming.
Many activity trackers also help you monitor your sleep habits. However, some people have written to me to report that they find it disruptive to wear a fitness tracker bracelet (or wrist band) while sleeping. Since I started wearing my fitness tracker ring, I no longer have that issue. The ring is sleek and slender, and does not bother my sleep at all. And it does a phenomenal job of letting me know how long I sleep and the actual quality of my sleep each night.
What are the different kinds of activity trackers out there?
Where to begin? There are so many different kinds out there that it can be confusing to sort through it all. Here is a basic starting point:
- Fitness activity bands (also called bracelets or wrist bands)
- Smart watches
- Fitness tracker ring
Is a fitness tracker watch right for me?
Fitness tracker watches are also known as smart watches, basically because they can do so much for you. If you enjoy wearing a traditional watch, I think that you will really love everything that a smart watch has to offer. It keeps time like a traditional watch, but also adds many features to make your life easier and better. Many of them allow you to have the traditional watch face dial as your display, if you choose. These smart watches are also available in many styles to match your taste and sense of fashion.
In addition to being a great watch, the smart watch can also help you track your location, depending on which one you choose. Many offer GPS capabilities, which is so convenient when you travel.
Not only can it track your location, but it can also track your health and fitness. By monitoring your heart rate, steps taken, distance covered, calories spent, and sleep patterns, you can really start to understand your current fitness level. Then, you can set goals to improve over time. Before you know it, you will be more fit than ever before. Remember, that it is nearly impossible to improve on things that we do not measure. So now, you can accurately measure your key health and wellness metrics and improve your life.
Which one has the most to offer?
After checking out many different brands, I have to say that the Apple Watch Series 4 is my absolute favorite. It is sleek and modern in design, and has many outstanding features. I like having the option of switching out the steel band for the silicone sports band for working out. Click here to read my full review.
- Battery life generally up to 18 hours (but I often go up to 24 hours)
- Bands are easily interchangeable
- Easy to read texts and emails, even when my phone is not close by
- Large, easy to read display
- Comfortable to wear
- Excellent call clarity
- Highly accurate heart rate monitor
- Can be more expensive than other smart watches
- Some of my friends had trouble connecting their Apple watch to Verizon, but I had no problems
Putting it all together…
I hope that you now have a better idea about fitness tracker watches and all that these smart watches have to offer. There are models geared for both kids and adults, as well as many styles and colors to choose from. They also come in a great range of prices to fit almost any budget.
Wearing a smart watch is a smart idea. Not only will you always know the time, but they look great and offer you the many features described in this brief article. Not only that, but you can wear it while you walk, run, jog, climb stairs, commute to work, shower, and sleep. Be careful, they are so amazing that they can become addictive.
